THE SONGER AUDIO A3 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER

The A3 is a 300B Single-Ended Triode design, tailored to compliment the performance of our loudspeakers. Drawing strong references from the design language of the speakers, the solid hardwood and brass detailed chassis are a perfect compliment to the cabinetry. The hand-polished, quarter-inch thick brass top plate is not just a striking visual statement. Weighing in at 36 pounds, it likewise provides an incredibly high-mass foundation for vibration-sensitive vacuum tubes.

The C3M tube at the core of the gain stage was originally created as a “no compromise” design by the German Post, for telephony use. It possesses better drive capability and specifications than tubes typically paired with a 300B. Combined with a large Finemet-core interstage transformer, the A3 has an input sensitivity of 1.6VRMS, allowing it to be connected directly to source components. That large interstage and an over-spec Finemet output transformer produces a very wide frequency response. Unique circuitry choices increase dampening factor as well, allowing the A3 to exhibit excellent bass control in a single-ended design.

It features a stout power supply with excess capacity, and 5AR4 / GZ34 DC rectification. The CLCLC configuration of both film, oil and Mundorf HV+ capacitors smooths and cleans the high voltage power feeding the audio circuit. Due to the nature in which the tube heater circuit and audio circuit interact in the 300B, filament noise can be problematic. However in this design, regulated DC heater circuits minimize DHT filament noise, and ensure long tube lifespan.

A NEW PERFORMANCE STANDARD: THE S1x

The S1x sets a new standard for single-driver point source performance. Centered around our latest V4 Nova driver, every facet of our critically acclaimed S1 was revisited in the development of the S1x, with the goal of producing the finest single driver loudspeaker ever made.

Our Nova driver is unlike any other. With a redesigned steel geometry milled from ultra-low carbon steel, the field coil pole piece is made from permendur, offering the highest saturation flux density of any commercially available metal.

Deep cryogenic processing is a three day treatment in which the Nova voice coil wire is submerged in liquid nitrogen for 48 hours at -300°F. During this process, the wire metal is compressed, becomes more conductive, and its natural crystalline structure is restored. The result is clarity, detail and accuracy elevated to new, utterly breathtaking levels.

A new solid copper phase plug further lowers the inductance of the Nova, while delivering better thermal performance to the field coil motor.

The solid hardwood cabinet lining and damping have likewise been improved, and all internal wiring upgraded. The bases of the S1x are a new addition as well, comprised in the S1x of a high mass phenolic resin-based composite material.

Finally, the efficiency of the new S1x has increased further to 95dB 1w/1M.

THE ORIGINAL S1 LOUDSPEAKER

The S1 delivers absolutely everything, by adding almost nothing; its greatest strength is its well-constructed simplicity. It is a piece of fine furniture, designed to look as equally beautiful in your listening room as it sounds.

The S1 loudspeaker is a solid hardwood, hand-crafted 140 liter bass reflex design. Each pair is hand constructed from 100% kiln-dried hardwoods, in a variety of standard options or in a hardwood of your choosing. It is well braced, internally lined and damped to eliminate unwanted cabinet resonances, and port tuned to 24Hz for full, accurate bass response. The cabinet is acoustically isolated from its base and the floor, with solid brass risers.

The S1 minimally compensates for natural baffle diffraction, however it includes no additional internal components of any kind. No additional drivers are used, preserving perfect phase presentation throughout the frequency range. Because no multi-way crossover circuitry is necessary, your music isn't needlessly filtered, degraded or attenuated. The S1 simply holds the driver perfectly still at ear level, showcasing its remarkable performance free of any coloration, or distortion.

THE S2 LOUDSPEAKER

Like the S1, the construction quality and materials of the S2 are without compromise. The front baffles are constructed of 1.7 inch thick solid hardwood. To further eliminate distortion and resonance, the field coil driver is "magnet mounted" via the electromagnet housing to a 2.5 inch thick hardwood and glass-filled nylon support. This allows it to be all but entirely suspended in space, where it cannot transfer vibration to the front baffle.

The field coil driver has been modified for this design, leveraging the acoustic transparency of the driver suspension. It incorporates a novel, rear-firing whizzer which contributes to superb overall tonal balance and energy. As simply another part of the point source driver, the rear whizzer does not suffer from multi-way phase or timing issues. That benefit translates into a wonderful sense of live musical performance, with outstanding imaging and soundstage depth.

Below 130Hz, the Type D field coil is assisted by an Acoustic Elegance LO15 woofer for extremely accurate overall bass response. It is "port constrained" in the front, and employs an open, folded baffle design in the back. These design features lower free resonance, increase efficiency, and reduce wave cancellations for rich overall bass performance. Dual binding posts offer the option to run bridged passively, or to bi-amp for large listening spaces.

THE S2x LOUDSPEAKER

Newly redesigned around our latest Nova Type D driver, the S2x elevates the original S2 to new, breathtaking levels of performance. Every facet of the S2 design and Nova driver were revisited, with key performance gains in the drivers, cabinetry, wiring, and crossovers.

The Nova Type D is specifically for open baffle applications, leveraging the acoustic transparency of its driver suspension. It incorporates a novel, rear-firing whizzer which contributes to superb tonal balance and energy. As part of the point source driver, the rear whizzer does not suffer from multi-way phase or timing issues. That benefit translates into a wonderful sense of live musical performance, with outstanding imaging and soundstage width and depth.

Below 120Hz, the Nova is assisted by an Acoustic Elegance LO15 woofer, now modified with a solid copper phase plug for even lower inductance and greater accuracy. It is "port constrained" in the front, and employs an open, folded baffle design in the back. These design features lower free resonance, increase efficiency, and reduce wave cancellations for rich overall bass presentation. Dual binding posts offer the option to run bridged, or to bi-amp for large listening spaces.

THE PS1 POWER SUPPLY

The PS1 is a very tightly regulated, very low impedance power supply. It is specifically designed as a high noise rejection type, such that AC line noise and harmonic noise is not transferred to the DC regulated output powering the field coil. This unique feature damps any induced motor voice coil modulated signal from the field coil, shunting this AC induced audio signal at the power supply.

The result is "locked down" pure DC power to the driver, with no overlying AC audio signal.

The supply is adjustable from 9 to 12.5 volts, and can deliver constant DC current up to 2 amps. This allows the listener to significantly modify the "total Q" and overall character of a loudspeaker, and thereby tune it to their personal listening preference.

The rejection ratio of this regulated supply is over 70 dB. Input power is configurable to order, for 115 or 230 volt 50/60 Hz operation. Two 6-foot XLR cables are included as standard, however they can also be configured to your needs.

We are delighted that Whammerdyne Heavy Industries manufacturers these remarkable power supplies in a partnership with Songer Audio.
